Enter a wonder-filled photography world
Magicians, skeletons, princesses, found objects, compelling children, snippets of dreams and and stories come together like a fantastical concoction in front of my lens. Can portraiture be fine art photography? It's an intriguing question I've explored for years. Here is a momentary peek into the life of one photographer.
Consider this website an experimental medium for bringing my mind's eye to light. A place to experience how a singular artist thinks, feels and finds inspiration. 15 years as a children's portrait photographer have given me the chops to explore evocative, story-telling images with children as central characters full of mystique, longing and ambiguity. As an art therapist I create safe and playful environments for all of my subjects large and small. An ongoing interest in archetypal themes and emotional expression drive my photography into the future while reimagining the past.
A passion for technology has given me additional tools to not only share my portfolio with others but to start a conversation with photographers and aficionados alike via my blog. Discover photography techniques and tools-of-the-trade or find out why I, as a photographer, might choose a subject, location, prop or even lighting techniques. A curiosity about the world and the wonderful discoveries within it are the basis for this web experience. Envelop yourself in my wonder.
The El Corazón collection by Kim Campbell
A growing collection of charismatic, sensitive and dramatically playful kids have steppped in front of my lens as I built a beloved collection of fine art photography images entitled El Corazón, the heart. This collection of portraiture takes vintage points of view, props and techniques and makes them modern. This contemporary photography styling is a hallmark of the collection.
Combining years of experience as a children's portrait photographer, art therapist and mother with a heart-felt love for creating beautiful and challenging works of art allows me to take fine art children's photography to a new level.
Intangible, thoughtful and spontaneous moments are all considered while interacting with my little models. Developing a visual story from a handcrafted mask, a torn velvet cape or a simple gesture invites the viewer to pause, reflect and question. Finding inspiration from archetypal themes, vintage props, painterly backgrounds and my digital darkroom allows my collection of El Corazon photographs to evolve and grow.
